Cellular Concrete Properties

LOW SPECIFIC WEIGHT

The low specific weight of cellular concrete allows for reducing the raw materials used for the load bearing structure of a building. At the same time, it is possible to increase the number of floors, of equal height, thanks to the reduction in thickness of the slabs.

MECHNICAL STRENGTH

Non-autoclaved cellular concrete, in the form of blocks, completely dispenses with the requirements of mechanical strength, further improvable thanks to Isoltech technology which, in making use of special mixing systems and of particular specifically formulated additives, allow for increasing the values.

THERMAL INSULATION

Cellular concrete has excellent thermal insulation properties thanks to its porosity characterized by enclosed microscopic cells of air. Taking into consideration a specific weight of 600 kg/m3, we may consider a transmittance of λ= 0,12 W/mK.

ACOUSTIC INSULATION

Cellular concrete is characterized by strong acoustic absorption. Blocks for insertions or infills (60x25x10) can be produced with greater density (from 800 to 1200 kg/cubic metre) increasing the acoustic insulation where thermal insulation is not a priority.

RESISTANCE TO FIRE

Cellular concrete is non-flammable and incombustible, is protected from propagation of fire, and corresponds to the first level of refractoriness. It can therefore be used for fire resistant constructions. If the cellular concrete surface is exposed to intense heat, it does not rupture or explode as happens on the other hand with heavy concrete. In consequence, the shielding is protected from heat for a longer period of time.
The material is classified for reaction to fire at class A1 and REI 180.

ECO-SUSTAINABILITY SOLUTIONS

The use of a lowest possible quantity of natural resources and the saving of combustible consumables is of fundamental importance for producing building materials. The reduction of energy necessary for production is without doubt one of the most important requirements asked of an eco-compatible material and, under this aspect, cellular concrete has no equals.

ON SITE PRODUCTION

Cellular concrete, thanks to the use of mixes such as sand, concrete and water, can be produced in any corner, exploiting materials easily obtainable on site and with the possibility of also using waste industrial materials in the mixture, or secondary raw materials with a silicon base, according to a licence registered by Isoltech.

SPEED OF LAYING

The formwork and the lightness and large dimensions of the blocks (60x25x10 cm of variable thickness) result in a reduction in construction times, of personnel costs, and lastly of the effective sales times.

ANTI-SEISMIC

Many areas of the world are at risk of seismic activity. The only method for confronting this serious and dramatic natural danger is that of paying maximum attention to building design, using materials capable of guaranteeing more efficient and innovative systems for opposing any land movement. Cellular concrete lightens the weight bearing on the supporting structure and contributes to the anti-seismic resistance if made using particular moulds, such as for the 3C Isoltech seismic blocks.

ZERO MILES

The modest dimensions of the plants for producing cellular concrete and their ease of handling allow for its location at the production plant – even for limited periods – in the vicinity of the markets of use and of important work sites. The incidence of transport costs for the product therefore is equal to zero, while the “ecological” value of cellular concrete becomes even more tangible.

NON-AUTOCLAVED VERSUS AUTOCLAVED

The production of non-autoclaved cellular concrete does not require costly plant, furnaces and autoclaves. Thanks to Isoltech technology and plant, it is possible to produce cellular concrete with a significantly lower energy consumption to that of autoclaved concrete. Furthermore, thanks to the reduced dimensions of the plant, it is possible to produce in the vicinity of the market of use, reducing the cost of transport to a symbolic minimum.
